YPC Cattle Call will participate in Blog Action Day this Wednesday, October 15th and will be blogging all week about climate change. The goal of Blog Action Day is for all bloggers around the world to blog on a single important issue. This year's topic is climate change. We can all argue about whether global warming, climate change, and sea level rise is resulting from human behavior, but it is an issue that the agriculture industry must confront head on. Not only does mainstream media falsely believe that cattle are a part of the problem, but the industry is also in combat against proposed climate change legislation on the federal and state level. There is no question that most of the other participants will be blogging about how modern agriculture is part of the climate change problem. But your YPC Cattle Call bloggers will be writing about the other side of the argument: how beef producers are using practices to protect the environment for generations to come and how the cattle industry is part of the solution.
I should probably introduce myself since I might be an author from time-to-time. My name is Cari Rincker and I am on the YPC Leadership Board. I sit as a voting member for YPC on NCBA's Resolution's Committee and was recently appointed as the Chair of the Public Relations Committee for YPC. The Public Relations Committee is currently comprised of over 25 YPC members from all over the country and sectors of the beef industry. Through their insight, this blog was formed. I am not a regular blogger for YPC Cattle Call-- I just work behind the scenes along with NCBA staff. If you are interested in being a regular blogger or guest blogger for YPC Cattle Call, please contact me at cari.rincker@gmail.com. I also work with YPC members who are interested in being a media contact in their area. If you are in twitterverse, please follow me @CariRincker. And, of course, you can find me on facebook! (you can also become a fan of YPC Cattle Call on facebook here).
This blog is an important venue for young beef producers by allowing us to have a voice in the conversation about important issues affecting our industry. I was at an agriculture law conference last week and one of the speakers briefly mentioned how blogs were helping shape our culture instead of journalists. With journalists like Bryan Walsh, I certainly hope that is the case. Let's support YPC Cattle Call this week with its participation in Blog Action Day. All week, YPC bloggers will be writing about climate change and giving our side of the story.
If you are a cattle producer and would like to register your blog for the event, you can do so here. You can also watch a video on Blog Action Day here.
