If you have been following this blog and wondering how you can get involved with YPC, there are three committees currently seeking volunteers: public relations, membership, and structure/governance.
1. Public Relations: As I noted here, I am currently the Chair of the Public Relations Committee until NCBA Convention in January. This Committee was in charge of getting this blog off the ground. The PR Committee also manages YPC media contracts. If you are interested in the PR Committee, please email me at cari.rincker@gmail.com.
2. Membership: In this post, I noted that Ben Spitzer was the Chair of YPC's Membership Committee. This Committee will govern efforts to help increase YPC membership and enthusiasm. If you are interested, please email Ben at ben@svfbulls.com. You can read my interview with Ben S here.
3. Governance/Structure: There's a third committee that I haven't mentioned yet on this blog. Ben Neale is currently the Chair of the Governance/Structure committee and he is seeking volunteers to discuss the stucture of YPC and how it should be governed. Since YPC is currently in its first year, there are a lot of questions to ask including: (i) length of elected terms; (ii) what NCBA committees should YPC have representation on; (iii) whether their be a Vice-Chair or Chair-Elec; (iv) how to handle age maximums with 2 year terms, (v) YPC standing and special committees; (vi) whether committee chairs should be policy committee representatives or seperate elected positions, (vii) whether YPC should have traditional officers, (viii) whether non-producer YPC members can participate on committees, leadership board, and/or officer team, and (ix) any other issues affecting how YPC should be governed. This Committee will also write YPC's Bylaws to be approved in San Antonio at the Annual Business meeting. This group needs to get their hands dirty in the next month since Annual Convention is right around the corner. If you are interested, please email Ben at ben@tennesseelivestocknetwork.com. You can also read more about Ben here.
I believe that organizations come to life when somebody rolls up their sleeves and gets involved. This is a great time to become active in YPC since the organization is still in its infancy. Want to get involved but none of these committees suit your interests? Then email YPC Chair Dustin Dean at dustin_dean@hotmail.com and he will be sure to put you to work!
